Beth Lisick and Tara Jepson’s new show- San Francisco August 7, 2008

Tara Jepson and Beth Lisick

The first time I really had a taste of Tara Jepson and Beth Lisick’s work was one evening during a San Francisco film benefit. They volunteered their time to perform a Mitsi and Carole skit, then followed with their short film Diving for Pearls. I was inspired, in love, and my belly hurt from laughing.

Just last weekend I went to see their new show Getting in on the Ground Floor and Staying There.  They refer to nudity as a downer which of course is how they open the show.  Strobe lights and spastic nude dancing.  Not a downer really, just unexpected and maybe embarrassing.  But for who?  I think that question is posed through out their show.  They also bring to light the 10 year anniversary of working together while reviewing and reflecting on past work and current selves.  During the show, we get to see the evolution of Carole and Mitzi as characters and by the end I felt like I really knew them and related to their struggle.  And we met Tara’s Mom.

I pose one more question.  Why are they not more famous and on SNL yet?  I think I should “hire” Carole and Mitzi to help “produce” Hot Situation.  They won’t even have to move off of their couch!

Watch this Beth Lisick vid.  It’s nice.

I do have friends that are getting married or have already been married, but I actually don’t know the guys in this video. But it’s amazing. We should all make videos like this. (feel free to leave out the credits next time!)
