My Grandpa - New York March 30, 2008
Hey there. I’ve been away from the blogosphere for a few days because my beloved Grandfather passed away a few days ago. Here I am in New York staying at a hotel with my family. As I look to my right I can see the JFK airport. So charming.I just wanted to give a tribute post to my gramps. He has been a cool old guy in my life. My insatiable love of travel is due in part to him taking us (his grand-kids) to other countries in my teenage years in a quest to uncover our ancestor’s stories as well as our trips to Long Island, NY every summer to visit the grandparents and my cousins. That’s when I used to scour NYC and Jones beach looking for Winona Ryder, basically my child hood heart throb.Later, when I was out and proud, he was a pretty supportive grandpa. I appreciate that. How many grandmas and grandpas of that generation can you easily tell about your new girlfriend and your LGBT Travel show that you are working on? Granted he never said the L word, G word, or any word of that caliber; but if everyone could easily say the L Word then the TV show’s name would have no drama to it. JK.Thanks for everything Grandpa. We’ll miss you.
